As we move through this sacred week, we invite you to join us for these opportunities for worship, reflection, and community.
Maundy Thursday, April 14
6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall
Maundy Thursday takes its name from the Latin Dies Mandati, the day of the commandment, referring to Jesus’ commandment that the disciples love one another. On this night, we’ll gather around candlelit tables for an experiential service with three movements (Font, Table, World) to help us connect with the Maundy Thursday story.
Note: Please enter the building through the double glass doors facing the Urban Ave. parking lot. Then proceed straight ahead to get to the fellowship hall.
Good Friday, April 15
6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary
Livestream link on the Watts Street Baptist Church Facebook page
Through hymns, reading, silence, and confession, we commemorate the death of Jesus. This service echoes the ancient tradition of Tenebrae with the extinguishing of candles as the Passion story is read. The service ends in darkness, reminding us of Jesus’ death and removal from our sight for three days.
Easter Sunday, April 17
11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Livestream link on the Watts Street Baptist Church Facebook page
We gather on the day of the Resurrection, celebrating and anticipating an encounter with the Risen Lord! We’ll ring our Alleluia bells, sing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus”, and celebrate three baptisms.
Everyone is invited to bring fresh flowers for the decorating of the Easter Cross.
After the service, we will collect a special Easter Sunday offering for Ukraine Relief. Our youth will hold collection baskets at the sanctuary exits after the service. For text giving instructions, visit https://wattsstreet.org/text-giving. Be sure to type UKR after the dollar amount (example: $25 UKR).
As you leave the service, we invite you to receive a piece of Pascha bread. Last week, representatives from Saint Sophia Ukrainian Catholic Church in Garner met with a group of Watts Streeters and shared about their church and culture and how to make Pascha, a special sweet bread that Ukrainians bake only at Easter. A team of Watts Street bakers will bake Pascha on Friday so we can share this bread with you in solidarity with Ukraine and in celebration of the risen Christ.
Worship Pandemic Protocol: We are keeping our mask requirement through Easter Sunday. On Easter Sunday we will return the cushions that we have removed from the sanctuary to allow for more seating should we need it. We will continue to offer overflow space in the fellowship hall and also continue to livestream our Sunday services each week.
