We are 2 weeks’ away from UN climate negotiations in Glasgow, Scotland, and people of diverse religions are rising together in a global, grassroots, multi-faith action called FAITHS 4 CLIMATE JUSTICE to show that “destroying the planet is against our religions.” Fires, droughts, and floods are happening around the globe leaving poverty, trauma, and injustice in their wake. Governments and other institutions have failed to meet the Paris Agreement pledge made 6 years ago. We believe we are facing a true emergency and our faith requires a transformational response.
On Sunday, October 17, people of faith will unfurl banners, ring bells, sound gongs, and pray to show support. On Monday, clergy will line up at local government buildings, banks, and investment houses to deliver demands in person. Also, on Monday at 5 pm, if you can, join others to form a Human Prayer Chain for Climate Justice along Wade Avenue in Raleigh. The prayer chain begins at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UUFR) and will extend as far down Wade Avenue as there are souls to go! Parking is available at UUFR, 3313 Wade Avenue, and at Community United Church of Christ, 814 Dixie Trail at Wade Avenue.
