On February 3, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and February 4, 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Children’s Education Committee is excited about a unique opportunity for our church. We’re hosting LeAnn Gardner to lead a workshop for parents, grandparents and other caregivers of children ages birth-8th grade, titled S.A.F.E.: Sexual Awareness and Family Empowerment: Keeping Our Children Safe. LeAnn is a licensed clinical social worker and ordained minister. She aims to help moderate and progressive Christians think carefully about how to talk with children about the difficult topic of sex. She wants to empower caregivers to equip their children with knowledge they need to know and to keep them safe. She encourages parents to recognize this is not a topic to save up for one “conversation,” but should be part of a larger ongoing conversation helping children know their safety is important and the adults in their lives are willing to have the difficult conversations with them.
We hope many parents, grandparents and other caregivers will choose to attend. Keep your eyes open for registration information. Dinner is provided on Friday evening and breakfast is provided on Saturday morning. LeAnn encourages couples attend together to help everyone be on the same page. Childcare is provided by reservation.
