On March 2, 9, and 16, the Adult Education Committee invites you to explore the following March Forums during Sunday School at 9:45 a.m.:
Jesus and Empire

Mike Smith leads three sessions exploring the Christian confession “Jesus is Lord” in relation to the power structures of this world. As we’ll see, Jesus himself came preaching an alternative realm – the Kingdom of God – and called his followers to a different way of being in the world. What might this mean for Christians today, particularly as we follow Jesus in the midst of problematic powers? What does it mean for us to proclaim Jesus as Lord in the present? Join us and explore these questions of faith during the March Forums.
Nurturing Our Christian Faith Through the Arts
Chapel
The congregation will explore and experience how the arts can nurture our Christian faith. Each Sunday a different and personal Faith Journey will be presented, highlighting how poetry, music, and visual art have impacted these journeys:
March 2 – Daryll Powell leads a session on religious poetry from both the Bible and poets John Donne, Walt Whitman, W. H. Auden, and James Weldon Johnson.
March 9 – Scotty Elliott and his sister, Wendy Wooten, celebrates songs they grew up hearing in their small, rural church along with the traditional hymns that have had a formative influence on so many of us. (And yes, there will be lots of singing.)
March 16 – Jenny Leinbach, a gallery guide at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke, explores various works of art and conveys how religious imagery has shaped her faith. (And, yes, there will be pictures!)
