We conclude the season of Lent with several meaningful services during Holy Week. We invite you to journey with us as we move through the events of the last week of Jesus’ life and then celebrate in full our new life in Christ on Easter Sunday!
Palm Sunday, April 14
At the 11 a.m. worship service, we wave palm branches as we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Children help lead us in this tradition that churches the world over reenact on this day. The Praise and Alleluia Choirs, the Youth Choir, and the Chancel Choir lead the Palm Sunday processional.
Maundy Thursday, April 18
A 5:30 p.m. foot washing service will take place in the sanctuary. This service is especially good for families with young children, but all ages are invited.
We gather at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary to remember the Last Supper. Maundy Thursday takes its name from the Latin Dies Mandati, the day of commandment, referring to Jesus’ commandment that the disciples love one another. In the music, scripture, readings, and sharing of the bread and cup of Christian communion, we will remember and give thanks.
Good Friday, April 19
Experience an exhibit of original artwork based on the Good Friday scripture readings and created by the members and friends of Watts Street Baptist Church. A “visitors guide” will be provided with simple reflection questions based on the scriptures. The church will be open from 4-7 p.m. (room location TBA). Come by anytime and allow at least 30-45 minutes to move through the gallery.
Easter Sunday, April 21
We gather on this day of the Resurrection, celebrating and anticipating an encounter with the Risen Lord. We will bring out the Alleluia bells and festive music for the congregation (including hymns and Handel’s “Hallelujah”). Be sure to bring an offering of fresh flowers for the decorating of the Cross.
