December Mission Opportunities

December 7, 2018

Our Missions Committee and Mission Groups have lots of opportunities to give and serve this holiday season!

One World Market Shopping Day!

WSBC Annual Shopping Day is Sunday, December 2, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Check off some Christmas list shopping and enjoy a 10% discount on all purchases, plus cookies, juice and freshly brewed fair-trade coffee. You will be supporting our mission partner One World Market (811 Ninth Street, Durham) and Fair Trade around the world! For more information, contact Paula Januzzi-Godfrey at januzzip@gmail.com.

December Mission Baskets: Open Table Ministry

We’re collecting items for Open Table Ministries to help them stock their Free Store with much needed clothing and hygiene items for the homeless. They request deodorant, insect repellent, belts, underwear, men’s jeans (smaller sizes), and socks. See the flyers posted around the church for the complete list. Please leave your donations in the mission baskets in the side foyer near the sanctuary or in the Fellowship Hall. Questions? Contact David Heist (david.heist@gmail.com).

December Minute for Mission

On December 9, Paula Januzzi-Godfrey will talk about the El Salvador Mission Fund. She will focus on the educational scholarships for students in Alegria and San Rafael, El Salvador. All the students are associated with our sister church, Emmanuel Baptist in San Salvador. Please write checks to WSBC with “El Salvador Scholarships” on the memo line.

Share Your Christmas

Sign up now to sponsor a local child or family from Walltown or Families Moving Forward for Christmas this year! Sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin board leading into the fellowship hall. Wrapped gifts are due back to church by the end of the church service on Sunday, December 16. Detailed instructions are available on the bulletin board, or contact April Walton (awalton@duke.edu) if you have any questions.

Support for Merrick-Moore

Merrick-Moore Elementary School has 640 students – and over 98% are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Several Watts Street members volunteer at Merrick-Moore and are trying to support a small PTA.
One way to generate funds for the school is the HarrisTeeter Together-in-Education program. If you have a Vic card and are not linked to a particular school, consider supporting Merrick-Moore by going to https:// www.harristeeter.com/together-in-education. Thank you!

Meals on Wheels Tuesday, December 11

Help assemble and pack meals at Meals on Wheels of Durham. Meet at WSBC at 8:00 a.m. We carpool from the Urban Avenue parking lot to the MOW facility at 2522 Ross Road. We’ll return by 10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome! Please RSVP to Bob Kruhm (rkruhm@nc.rr.com) or call the church office to sign up.
