During the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:45 am) on March 5, 12 and 19, Adult Ministries offers three outstanding opportunities for faith formation with other adults:
Lenten Journey: Exploring Psalms of Lament
led by Debra Freeman
In this Forum, we will explore the universal human need to acknowledge and live into times of lament. We will join our hearts with writers from more than 2000 years ago, as we find the common spaces that bind our hearts together as we cry out to our loving and merciful God.
Implicit (and Universal) Bias
led by Jim Drennan
The Fellowship Hall
Got Bias? Of course, you do, if you are human. Even if you are good. Twenty years ago, implicit bias was almost never discussed, but it is frequently in the news, even in the most recent presidential debates. Police shootings, employment discrimination, overrepresentation of minorities in the juvenile justice and school discipline systems, among others, are explained in part by the power of implicit bias. This Forum will explore the HOW (thinking fast and slow) and WHY (so we can survive) of implicit (or unconscious) biases. And the ways we can minimize their effect on us as we work toward an inclusive world where distinctions that should not matter don’t matter.
Hacedores de Paz (“Peacemakers”)
Join the El Salvador Mission Group as they share how we keep our covenant relationship with Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel in San Salvador alive. This Forum will discuss El Salvador’s past, present, and future and the ways our sister church has spread the message of peace during El Salvador’s past civil war and current gang violence. We will explore their vision for peace and hopes for the future.
