The anthem we commissioned for WSBC’s 100th anniversary has arrived and we are so excited! Composed by Sherry Blevins, the anthem, “Let Us Walk in God’s Light” is based on Micah 6:8. The anthem will be premiered on March 5 and Sherry Blevins plans to be at our church to hear it!
About the Composer
Sherry Blevins is a sought-after artist and award-winning music educator, conductor, clinician, lyricist, and composer. Since 2017, she has been honored to compose for a variety of singers and ensembles across North America including the West Vancouver Schools’ Honour Choirs, Tennessee All-State Treble choir, The Chattanooga Boys Choir, renowned soprano, Rebecca cook- Carter, the Piedmont Invitational Choral Festival, South Carolina Music Educators National Conference, Young Voices of the Carolinas, The Cincinnati Boychoir, Santa Monica College, and many other all-state, all-county, and honor choirs. She has just been commissioned by National Concerts to compose a piece that will premiere at Carnegie Hall in 2024.
Sherry also frequently serves as a clinician, adjudicator for festivals, and holds workshops on conducting techniques, lesson planning, and composing. Her latest passion is working with choirs on composing projects and to date, has many pieces that have been published as a result of these projects.
Sherry has a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master’s degree in music education from Appalachian State University. Her hope is that whether through composing or teaching, that the music she shares will bring hope, life, and light to others.
