At WSBC we are guided by love to take action in our world. Our mission work grows out of specific promises we make in the church covenant: to promote peace and justice wherever we touch other lives, and to feed, house, and befriend the needy.
Mission Groups are formed and disbanded in response to changing needs and spiritual callings. Periodically, a person or two will “sound a call” during worship for a new Mission Group, or re-sound a call to invite others to join an existing Mission Group. The three questions we are guided by in the formation of a Mission Group are:
- Is this good news?
- Does this mission seem impossible to accomplish?
- Is there a good chance we will fail?
If we can answer “yes” to all three questions, that is a good sign that the Spirit is leading us to undertake the mission!
The Missions Committee provides the following support to the church’s mission efforts:
- Coordinates and publicizes mission activities
- Plans and manages the annual mission budget and monthly mission offerings
- Serves as a sounding board and incubator for new missions
Members are elected by the congregation to serve staggered terms of two years, with one renewal term possible. The committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month, and meetings are open to all members of the church.
The budget for the church’s missions reflects in part the work of mission groups. Our goal is to give more than 20% of the operating budget to international, national, local, and church mission groups.
