The Environmental Mission Group formed in June 2000 to address our faith community’s response to ecological concerns.

The group has promoted sustainability within our congregation and sponsored events to encourage thinking about faith-ecology connections. They have led transitions from disposable to reusable items where feasible, built a compost bin, coordinated a Lenten devotional booklet focused on our connections with Earth, facilitated a series of discussions on voluntary simplicity, sponsored a retreat with the theme Spirit and Nature, and organized a youth mission project to clean up South Ellerbee Creek.  In summer 2002 they arranged for interested members of the congregation to buy produce from an organic farmer and conducted a summer program on ecology for children.

The Environmental Mission Group seeks to carry out God’s call to care for all of Creation. Contact Laura Webb Smith for more information.
